The cool air makes me want to knit and crochet.

crochet, DIY, fashion, Uncategorized

The cool fall air has me thinking about knitting and crochet projects. I  had to put all of my personal projects on hold while I work through a grueling project deadline but next week I plan on having time to work with yarn no matter what.

Every year I make myself a few new hats, can’t have too many hats. I haven’t decided yet which ones I will make but I’m thinking about this one from Tiny Owl Knits. Last year I made the meow mitts for my daughter for Xmas and I loved the design so much I can’t wait to make more of her patterns.

I also plan to make myself another one of these vintage turbans this year but I think I’ll use a really fuzzy wool this time, maybe in pink…

You can get my modern translation of this vintage crochet pattern on Etsy.

Scarf Prints

design, fashion, process

I’ve been very interested in designing prints this year. I’ve been thinking so much about my concepts and inspirations that it just seemed like a natural progression to develop prints based on what I’m collecting and looking at.

I started collecting porcelain animals for no reason other than that I just loved looking at them. I also started to collect doodles from my daughter and her friends to go along with my “About A Girl” collection which is all about revisiting the things I missed out on as a teen. I put the 2 together to come up with scarf designs.

These are the first 2 that I ordered to test the colors and the quality of the images. I’m trying not to be too perfectionist about it and let it be more organic and fun.  I think this is a good start…

These were printed at Spoonflower onto cotton voile and measure about 22″ square.

Heather’s (Bag)

design

I’m really excited about the first product my daughter and I created together. She needed a way to carry her Pennyboard skateboard (named Heather) and we couldn’t find anything online that would work so we decided to make it ourselves. She designed it and picked out the fabrics; I made the pattern and started sewing them. Now we have our first batch of finished bags on Etsy. More colors will be coming as soon as exam week is over and she can help me make more!

Let us know what you think or what colors you would like to see to coordinate with your skateboard.

A Summer’s Tale Tote Bag

design, fashion

I designed this little gingham wisp of a tote bag a few years ago for a friend. I love it so much that I made myself one too. I decided that this summer would be the perfect time to make a few more to offer on Etsy.

It is just a slight little tote for summer days or evenings out when you don’t want to carry anything heavy.

Skate Boarding, etc.

design

Skate boarding has taken over my neighborhood. All the local kids are out on their boards and I love watching them. It looks like so much fun but I’m one of those people who can barely balance on a flat floor so I won’t be trying it.

My daughter and her gang of skaters, named the “Royals”, have been skating around on their pastel and ice-cream colored penny-boards. She and I designed this backpack to hold her small skate board while she travels this summer.

We liked the design and the soft, worn-in feel of the fabric so much that we decided to make more and put them up on Etsy. We should be listing some very soon…

A new banner and some Holiday fun

craft, crochet, life, process

I made this little collage right before the Holidays and used it as the image for some postcards and tags for the holiday craft show I did. I also added part of it to my Etsy store as a new banner.

My daughter and I love The Walking Dead and one of our favorites Quotes from Rick is “…I’m doin’ stuff Lori, (long pause) and things”.  So with that in mind, I made some jars to hold your precious “stuff and things”.

I love making little things for a craft show every once in a while, it gives me a chance to just play and have fun.

Working hard on my Holiday crafts

craft, crochet

This year I will have my little hand crafts that I can’t help making available at the Yuletide craft show at 1305 Gallery on Main Street. Show starts on Final Friday, which also happens to be black Friday this year, and runs through the end of December.

Revisiting a favorite pattern…

I recently made some new towels from my Towel Topper Pattern. I still find these towels super handy around the house. When they get too old and ratty I toss them out and get to make more!

If you’re interested in making a few towel toppers of your own you can download the PDF pattern here (towel_topper) and the original tutorial is posted here. If you have a larger towel that you need to make a topper for just enlarge the pattern a bit.

Be sure to let me know how your towels turn out!
